Tenderfoot Teacher by Aileen Kilgore Henderson. Subtitled Letters from the Big Bend 1952-1954, this is a droll and insightful look at the early days of the park written by a young schoolteacher and social butterfly in the form of letters to her family and friends who, probably, could hardly imagine what her life was like. Much has changed in the intervening half century and much that she chronicles would never be allowed today. But it is fascinating to see how much everyone depended on each other then, as now.
